You do know about PostSecret, right? It’s an online community art project started by Frank Warren. He started by handing out postcards and encouraging people to write a secret on one side and anonymously send it to him. The original idea was an art installation. Then it became a website. Then it became a book. It’s since grown to several books, lectures across the country, and of course, a website that is updated weekly with new secrets. I know this is not a typical blog, but it’s worth checking out.
Here are some secrets from the week of 5/18/2008:
“You don’t know this, but…If you hadn’t stayed up until 4:45 am with me in the dorm bathroom that night…I would have killed myself. Thank you.”
“My parents think I work for a wedding photographer. My company actually makes internet porn.”
“I call the cops on all the parties you don’t invite me to.”
Sometimes the secrets will make you laugh out loud and sometimes you’ll be moved to tears. But the best you can hope for is to see yourself in a secret or two – that’s where the real growth happens.
